May-November 2008

Annual Academic Forum organized by Samusocial Perú and the School of Civil Protection, for inter-disciplinary exchange and dialogue on health promotion topics based on strengthening of social networks and community resources
.

THE SPIRIT BEHIND THIS PROPOSAL

“Is a healthy man the one who can create, love and laugh (…) Loving is fully being, is going beyond oneself and feeling capable of becoming one with one another; is relinquishing the Being, transcending the egoism, living in communion (…); it is, paradoxically, fulfilling our individual destiny, sacrificing it; realizing our most authentic Being, diluting it; being man among men and for humankind.”

(Seguín, C. You and Medicine)

The right to health is a fundamental right and essential requirement for the exercise of the other rights. In accordance with World Health Organization, it implies the bio-, psycho- and social-balance of the human being, which would be considering individual, group and social levels. Samusocial Perú is looking for promoting health from this broader definition, as a means to guarantee the healthy development of populations based on a holistic point of view that encompasses the human being, and on the strengthening of social networks and community resources.

This implies a commitment towards integration of the contributions of different social actors based on the strengthening of alliances with the community, public and private institutions committed to the promotion of a healthy society that permits a sustainable human development with positive results in the economic and social scope.

For this purpose, Samusocial Perú and the School of Civil Protection joined forces to foster training of professionals from the different relevant specialties, research on health topics, building common work approaches and inter-institutional alliances, all oriented towards determining lines and strategies to be jointly adopted by institutions and organizations in charge of guaranteeing public health.

OBJECTIVE
From this commitment, Samusocial Perú and the School of Civil Protection organize a cycle of “Academic Workshops on Social and Health Risks” aimed at professionals of the community and public and private institutions interested on topics related to health promotion and human development from a community approach.

The main goal of the workshops is to generate inter-disciplinary dialogue and exchanges between professionals, facilitating the building of approaches and community intervention strategies from the different experiences and specialty knowledge each professional contributes with, combining master conferences with presentation roundtables and a space for dialogue and exchange.
